Anambra Couple Arrested for Staging Fake Kidnap to Extort ₦3 Million from Family



The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 23-year-old woman, Nmesoma Nwoye, and her 24-year-old boyfriend, Chibuike Ogbu, for orchestrating a fake kidnapping to extort money from Nwoye’s family. 

The police recovered ₦1.2 million, part of the ransom paid by the family, following the suspects’ arrest.In a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police revealed that intelligence-led operations exposed the couple’s scheme. 

Nwoye, posing as a kidnap victim, conspired with Ogbu to demand ₦15 million in ransom. After negotiations, the family transferred ₦3 million to Nwoye’s account, believing she was in danger.

Operatives from the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, arrested the pair after uncovering their plot. 

Ikenga emphasized the command’s commitment to combating such fraudulent schemes, noting that investigations are ongoing to ensure justice. 

The suspects are expected to face charges as the police continue to probe the incident.
