Four Terrorists Killed After Collecting N20m Ransom In Anambra, Victim Rescued

Four suspected terrorists who abducted a man in Anambra State and collected a ransom of N20 million from his family but still refused to release him have been killed by joint security operatives.

The operation was carried out by officers of the Anambra State Police Command in collaboration with the state-controlled Agunechemba Security Group.

The incident occurred on August 21, 2025, when operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, working jointly with the Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG), stormed a terrorist hideout at Awa, Orumba North Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement released in Awka on Friday.

According to Ikenga, the joint security team, acting on credible intelligence, launched a well-coordinated 15-hour assault on the insurgents’ camp, which led to the successful rescue of the kidnapped victim.

He explained that despite the payment of N20 million ransom by the victim’s family, the abductors kept him in captivity until security operatives intervened.

“In the ensuing gun battle, four of the criminal elements were neutralised, while several others escaped with bullet wounds,” Ikenga stated.

Items recovered from the hideout included two pump-action guns, a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a K2 assault rifle, a locally made hunter’s gun, radio transmission equipment, three locally produced improvised explosive devices (IEDs), gas cylinders, electrical cables, food supplies, mobile phones, and several vehicles. Among the vehicles seized were a black Lexus RX 350 SUV and four Toyota Camry cars with different registration numbers.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, assured residents that the Anambra State Police Command remains committed to eradicating criminal activities across the state.

He disclosed that further operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle other criminal camps.

“The Command will not relent until all such terrorist camps are completely destroyed,” Orutugu declared.
