Police To Simulate Bomb Detonations In Lagos Amid Heightened Security


The Lagos State Police Command has announced that its Explosives Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit will on Thursday conduct an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) simulation exercise.

The exercise is scheduled to take place at the Eko Atlantic City area of Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to the Command, the exercise aims to enhance the preparedness and response capacity of police operatives in handling bomb-related emergencies.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin said the drill will involve controlled detonations supervised by specially trained operatives.

He explained: “Residents, workers, and visitors around Eko Atlantic should not panic when they hear blast sounds.

These are controlled exercises, and there will be no shrapnel, casualties, or danger associated with the operation.”

Hundeyin emphasized that the Command had put strict safety measures in place, adding: “The Lagos State Police Command assures Lagosians that this exercise will be carried out under the highest safety standards. There is no cause for alarm.”

He further quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, as appealing for calm and cooperation during the exercise.

Jimoh noted: “This simulation is critical for our readiness. We urge the public to remain calm and understand that such training is necessary to keep our city safe from potential threats.”

The police also reassured the public of their commitment to maintaining peace and security.

“We will continue to strengthen our capacity and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the safety of all residents,” the statement added.
