The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted and seized 2.318 tons of cannabis in multiple operations across Kwara State within one week.
The state commander of the agency, Fatima Popoola, revealed this on Tuesday during a press briefing held in Ilorin, the state capital.
She stated that the seizures occurred during raids along the Offa and Omu-Aran axis between 3:00 am and 5:30 am.

Four suspects were apprehended after attempting to conceal the drugs inside Canter trucks and sacks of sawdust to avoid detection.
“This is one of the biggest seizures we have made in a single week in recent times, with a street value running into billions of naira,” Popoola said.
She explained that one suspect was caught with 1.2 tons of cannabis, another with 300 kg, while two others were connected to a 720 kg seizure.
She further revealed that a J5 vehicle, which was initially assumed to be empty, was eventually discovered to be completely filled with cannabis.
The NDLEA commander emphasised that drug abuse contributes to violent crimes in various parts of Kwara, including Kaiama, Chikanda, Patigi, Edu, and Omu Aran.
Popoola highlighted that the agency confiscated only two tons of drugs throughout 2024, but has already intercepted over 2,000 kg in the first eight months of 2025.
She credited the success to enhanced cooperation with the police, army, civil defence, and local traditional leaders.
The state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, through his Special Adviser, Saadu Salahu, praised the agency for the achievement and stated that the government is partnering with community leaders, religious groups, and civil society organizations to educate the public on the risks of drug abuse.
He called on residents to stay alert and actively support efforts to combat drug trafficking.
