Halima Amirah Junaid, the granddaughter of the late
President Muhammadu Buhari, is preparing to marry Walid Shehu Mu’azu in a
ceremony to be held in Kaduna state.
The wedding preparations commenced this week in Abuja, where
former first lady Aisha Buhari hosted a gathering of women in anticipation of
the main event.
Halima is the daughter of the late Zulaihat Junaid, Buhari’s
first child, who passed away during childbirth.
Zulaihat was married to Junaid Abdullahi. She is the
daughter of Safinatu, Buhari’s first wife, who is also late.
Abubakar Adamu, a coordinator for the wedding, provided
clarity on the bride’s family background to TheCable Lifestyle.
He confirmed that following the death of Zulaihat, the
former first lady Aisha Buhari assumed the role of caregiver for the late
president’s grandchildren.
Adamu also dismissed widespread reports that mistakenly
identified Halima as the daughter of the Buhari child who was married to
Abubakar Malami, former attorney-general of the federation.
“The mother of the bride is late. She was with her husband
when she died. It was her sister who was married to Malami. Even the one that
they gave birth to is still alive now. Because she died during childbirth,” he
said.
“The boy is alive. All the children are with Aisha who is
doing all that woman thing in Abuja. But the wedding proper would happen on the
30th.
“The culture is that it is the father who has to give his
daughter out.”
The official wedding ceremony between Halima Amira Junaid
and Walid Shehu Mu’azu is scheduled for August 30 in Kaduna.
The wedding reception will follow at the prestigious Kaduna
Polo Club.
