The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the so-called National Caretaker Committee purportedly constituted by Nyesom Wike and his allies as a laughable attempt to hijack the party for personal political gain.
The PDP said the scheme, which the faction attempted to falsely associate with the party, would have gone largely unnoticed if not for the audacity of cloaking it in the PDP name—a party from which they were formally expelled, with certificates to prove it.
PDP, in a statement on Monday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, emphasized that “the activity they claim to have undertaken is one they clearly lack the authority to carry out, even if they were still members of the party.
“For the avoidance of doubt, all organs of our party, particularly the National Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees, remain intact and under the legitimate leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN. These organs are led by dignified individuals, who cannot be procured or commodified in the manner that has become the signature modus operandi of this group of former members.”
The party reminded the public that Wike, through his agents Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Sam Anyanwu, had filed a suit on November 21, 2025, at the Federal High Court, Abuja, presided over by Honourable Justice J.O. Abdulmalik. The suit sought, among other things, the nullification and non-recognition of the PDP Convention and its outcomes. While the application for an interim injunction was refused, all parties were cautioned against taking steps that could undermine the eventual court judgment.
“By proceeding to announce a fictitious National Caretaker Committee, the Wike-led group has acted in clear contempt of the court, fundamentally altering the status of the plaintiffs in the suit”, the PDP said.
The statement added that this latest drama is merely another layer in the ongoing pattern of illegality dating back to 2023, aimed at politically crippling the PDP and obstructing its role as Nigeria’s main opposition party.
The party further accused the faction of aligning with the ruling party’s agenda, calling them “APC apologists” exploiting absurd tactics.
The PDP assured members and Nigerians alike of the party’s resilience, adding, “we reassure our members and the nation that the PDP remains firmly on a path of rebirth, anchored on transparency, equity, honesty, and inclusiveness.”
