Real Madrid are considering employing Alvaro Arbeloa to replace Xabi Alonso as manager.
On Sunday, Los Blancos were beaten 2-0 by Celta Vigo at home.
After the game, Madrid president Florentino Perez and general director Jose Angel Sanchez, met to discuss the team’s situation and Alonso’s future.
According to The Athletic, sources close to the conversation are not confident Alonso would still be in charge if they lose to Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Ideally, Madrid would prefer that Alonso continues in the role, but results are what matter most at the Bernabeu.
Madrid have drawn up a shortlist of candidates in case they sack Alonso, with their former defender Arbeloa believed to be highly regarded.
