During Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to Brazil on August 25, 2025, Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka met Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, presenting him with Mito, Literatura e o Mundo Africano (Myth, Literature and the African World).
The book, exploring Yoruba mythology and African intellectual traditions, symbolizes cultural ties between Africa and Brazil.
The presentation occurred alongside Tinubu’s diplomatic engagements, which included bilateral talks with Lula on agriculture, energy, trade, and defense.
The leaders signed MoUs, including a Bilateral Air Services Agreement for direct Lagos-São Paulo flights and a $2.5 billion JBS investment to boost Nigeria’s food security.
The $1.1 billion Green Imperative Programme will deliver 10,000 tractors and create jobs.
Tinubu’s visit, his third to Brazil in a year, strengthens Nigeria-Brazil ties, with Lula pledging technology transfers and African development support.
Soyinka’s gesture shows shared Afro-Brazilian heritage, complementing discussions on economic and cultural collaboration.
