The nurse challenged other health workers to share their own experiences with patients’ final moments, creating a space where people opened up about the pain of losing loved ones.

A TikTok user, Sam Bavin, joined the comments and shared his experience, noting:

“I’m not a nurse but wen we admitted my aunty in the hospital they brought in one guy and he was so badly injured. The doctor looked at me at told me he won’t make it. I remove dragging all the nurse and doctor around.

“They finally listen and when we were bringing him down He look at me and said. Please I don’t want to die. Promise me I won’t die. I held his hands and assured him he won’t die. They were busy operating him while I was there trying to keep him alive with me. I can see how young he was.

“They were done and the doctor said he needed something in another room the previous doctor locked. No spare key. The called the previous doctor and he said he can’t come out until it’s 6:00am. I was there with him from 11:00pm to 5:30 am when he finally gave up. He kept squeezing my hands and looking at me. He passed in the morning and I never forgive myself.

“He was just 23 and the only son. The doctor came by 7:00 am and I was surprised to see he didn’t even care. His name was Emeka and he worked in chu chu shop in Agbor. He was the bread winner of his family and he was with groundnut oil and some nurse.

“The nurse quickly carried the groundnut oil. I couldn’t believe how unbothered this people are. It was on Easter Day. I angrily took my aunty back home who later died. I wish I could tell his mom how badly he pleaded to me to make him stay alive. I tried convincing him it wasn’t that bad. The fact I lost my mom to this same hospital didn’t help matter. I felt defeated twice. Doctors at times lack empathy and I still don’t know why.”
