Lagos Government Trains, Empowers Youths In Bread, Pastry-making

In continuation of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s relentless support and commitment to productively engaging the youths in Lagos State to be self-reliant, reduce unemployment, mitigate crime and criminality, while building a resilient and vibrant ecosystem, the Lagos State Government has trained and empowered youths across the various rural communities of the state in bread and pastry production.

The one-day training, which was organised by the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD) in Igbodu, Epe LGA, brought together participants from all the rural divisions of the state to enhance the value of their human capital and to enable them to contribute to the growth of the Lagos economy.

Addressing participants at the event, the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Yekinni Lanre-Agbaje, represented by the Director, CERUD, Mr Musibau Balogun, stated that it was the first time the Centre was organising a training and empowerment in bread and pastry making.

He stressed further that bread and pastries are staple foods consumed daily by Lagosians, irrespective of their location or socioeconomic status, thereby offering huge economic prospects and profitability to the participants.

Dr Lanre-Agbaje thanked the Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, for their passionate interest in the well-being and socioeconomic upliftment of the people in the rural communities, demonstrated through prompt approvals to all the programmes and activities aimed at making life more comfortable for the rural dwellers.

The participants were exposed to practical training sessions on how to produce different types of bread, such as wheat, fruit and sardine bread, and pastries like egg rolls, sausages, pie, among others.

The beneficiaries, who were issued with certificates of participation, also went home with starter packs, including mini oven, a digital measuring scale, cake pans of various sizes, flour, sugar and other baking materials.

The excited participants thanked the Lagos State Government for the gesture and also pledged to maximise the opportunity provided by the training and empowerment to improve their earnings and contribute to the growth and development of the Lagos economy.
