
A truck said to be conveying diesel, has reportedly rammed into vehicles trapped in traffic congestion on the Benin-Auchi expressway, igniting fire and burning eight persons to death.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday at Agbede community by channel 5, in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
Blueprint gathered that the truck which was heading towards Auchi from Benin City, had a brake failure while descending Ewu hill and rammed into vehicles trapped in a traffic.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Edo state, Cyril Mathew, said: “the accident involved four vehicles with two of them carry diesel and jet fuel.”
According to Mathew, “Two of the victims died on Sunday, while four were rushed to the hospital.
“As at today Monday, one of the victims rushed to the hospital died. Five more corpses were recovered from the crash after the fire service had put out the inferno, bringing the total casualties to eight.”
