Seven people have been confirmed dead, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a crash on the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway in Yobe State.
The accident, which occurred near Warsala village in the Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State, involved a Toyota Sienna bus and a Toyota Corolla. Eyewitnesses attributed the crash to overspeeding by both vehicles.
“Seven lives were lost, while others sustained various degrees of injuries. The accident happened as a result of overspeeding by both drivers,” one eyewitness told Daily Trust.

A frontline emergency responder with the Yobe Emergency Medical Ambulance Service (YEMABUS) said the victims were immediately evacuated.
“The remains of the deceased and the injured were conveyed to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu for urgent care,” he said.
Confirming the incident, the Information Officer of YEMABUS, Ibrahim Waziri, said the crash claimed seven lives, four adults and three children, while several others were left injured.
“Our prompt arrival and professional care undoubtedly saved lives. As you know, YEMABUS exists to ensure emergency help reaches victims without delay,” Waziri added.
