23 Dead, 48 Injured in Kano Trailer Crash Due to Overspeeding

Kano State Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Sector Commander, Umar Matazu has confirmed that 23 persons lost their lives, while 48 others sustained various degree of injuries in a ghastly trailer accident on the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange bridge along Maiduguri road in Kano State. 

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Labaran, on Friday in Kano, said the accident occurred as a result of dangerous driving due to overspeeding, which resulted in loss of control under the bridge.

“We received a call at about 09:50 p.m. on Feb.13, 2025, On receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our personnel and vehicle to the scene of the incident to rescue the victims at 10:00p.m”,he said. 

According to him, the accident occurred as a result of dangerous driving due to overspeeding, which resulted in loss of control under the bridge.

“The passengers involved were 67 adult and four children, out of 71 passengers, 23 lost their lives while 48 others sustained serious injuries. 

“The injured were taken to Murtala Mohammed General hospital for urgent medical treatment”, Abdullahi said. 

The sector commander extended his deep condolences to the families of the deceased and prays for quick recovery of the injured victims.

The FRSC warned drivers and general public against overloading in trailers with goods, animals, and passengers, emphasizing that such dangerous practices significantly increase the risk of fatal crashes.

The statement added that obstruction caused by accident has been cleared and free flow of traffic has been restored.

The Command remained committed to ensuring safety on our roads and urges all motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives.
