2027: Saraki, Olawepo-Hashim, Other PDP Chieftains Meet In Peace Mission

2027: Saraki, Olawepo-Hashim, Other PDP Chieftains Meet In Peace Mission

Former presidential candidate and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has embarked on a reconciliation mission across the North Central zone to strengthen the party’s unity and rebuild its dwindling influence.

In continuation of his consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, Olawepo-Hashim met with former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki and former Sports Minister Damishi Sango, in what is seen as a strategic outreach to mend cracks and reposition the PDP as a credible opposition force.

Naija News reports that the reconciliation meeting comes as the PDP prepares for its National Convention in November in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Speaking after his meeting with Saraki, Olawepo-Hashim said both leaders resolved to set aside personal interests in favour of national stability and party survival.

“We agreed to work together for the greater interest of Nigeria, to rebuild the PDP in the North Central zone and the nation at large,” he stated.

The reconciliation drive comes at a time when the PDP is facing waves of defections across several states, with many members citing leadership crises, internal wrangling, and the party’s weakening grip on national politics as reasons for leaving.

It is believed that Olawepo-Hashim’s fresh engagements point to his growing role as a consensus builder within the PDP, particularly in the North Central, which they described as the party’s moral conscience since 1999.

Olawepo-Hashim’s renewed visibility is also being linked to the build-up to the 2027 general elections, with many within the PDP seeing him as one of the few figures capable of rallying disenchanted blocs around a common agenda.
