2027: NNPP to Explore Coalition Options, Support Tinubu

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has announced that its forthcoming National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, scheduled for August 28, 2025, will focus on critical strategies to position the party for success in the 2027 general elections.

The announcement, made on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, highlights the party’s intent to address key issues, including its constitutional review, upcoming congresses, and plans for mass mobilization.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the NNPP outlined the agenda for the pivotal meeting, which will include deliberations on the party’s national convention, a review of recent bye-election outcomes, and efforts to expand membership through a nationwide registration drive.

The meeting aims to solidify the NNPP’s role as a formidable player in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Johnson emphasized that the NEC meeting will also tackle the ongoing constitutional review, enabling the party to present a unified stance on critical democratic issues affecting Nigeria.

“The NNPP remains committed to its founding principles and values, and we are open to multiple strategic options as we prepare for 2027,” he stated, addressing speculations and political permutations circulating in the public sphere.

The statement comes amid growing discussions about the NNPP’s potential alliances and strategies ahead of the 2027 elections.

Johnson clarified that the party’s position remains consistent with its long-standing vision, dismissing rumors while reaffirming its focus on strengthening internal structures and mobilizing grassroots support.

“And this is to the effect that politics is dynamic, but that our actions and decisions must be within the context of principles and values. The question of national interest is also crucial.

“So to this extent, NNPP is still open to the three options we have talked about in the past: to form a kind of alliance or coalition, remain as NNPP and prosecute the election as an individual entity or support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election.

“These three options will be discussed at our NEC meeting on the 28th of August 2025, and to this extent, we appeal to all our members to remain calm as the ultimate decisions will be in the best interest of the people.”

However, NNPP called on its members to participate actively in the ongoing continuous voter registration to either register or review their registration and be ready for the nationwide mass mobilisation and registration of new members that is due to begin soon.
