2027: My Goal Is Good Governance, Not Presidency At All Costs

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that his political ambition is not driven by desperation to become Nigeria’s president.

He said his focus is on the desire to see the country achieve good governance and prosperity.

Atiku, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, made this known on Saturday, while speaking at an affirmation ceremony for new defectors into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos.

He was represented at the event by Prof. Ola Olateju of Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State.

The former PDP chieftain, who recently resigned his membership of the party to join ADC with other opposition politicians, said the movement was about building a better Nigeria.

“Atiku Abubakar’s plan is to build a better Nigeria. So, it’s not about him being the president.

“It’s about having a better government, a good government that will be able to deliver for Nigerians,” Olateju stated on his behalf.

He stressed that the political movement was beyond personal ambition.

“It’s not about Atiku having to be president at all costs. ADC, to us, is not just a political party. It is a movement, a movement of Nigerians for a better Nigeria,” he added.

Speaking on the 2027 elections, Atiku said the ADC presidential flagbearer would be decided by party members.

“Whoever emerges through free and fair contests, we are all going to support.

“The point is a better Nigeria, not Atiku for president at all costs,” he said.

He also expressed optimism that with God’s guidance, Nigerians could overcome current challenges, particularly the effects of fuel subsidy removal and inflation, through visionary leadership.
