Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has declared that all South-East governors are united in their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking in a widely circulated video shared on social media, Umahi emphasized the region’s alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and highlighted his own achievements as a key figure in the South-East’s political future.
Umahi, addressing the political dynamics of the South-East, stated, “All the governors of the South-East are supporting the president for 2027, and there’s no governor in the South-East that is not supporting the president.”
He pointed to developmental strides in Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, and Imo as evidence of the governors’ confidence in Tinubu’s leadership.
The minister argued that this unity reflects a strategic alignment with the federal government to advance the region’s interests.
Positioning himself as a frontrunner for the presidency when it is zoned to the South-East, Umahi boldly asserted, “When the presidency comes to the South-East, I should be at the forefront because of my performance.”
He challenged critics to a public debate, saying, “I’ve asked for a debate with anybody who feels otherwise.
I created something out of this state. God used me to do it.” Umahi highlighted his tenure as Ebonyi governor and his current role as Minister of Works, claiming, “God has used me, President Tinubu has used me, to better the lot of the South-East.”
Umahi also urged the South-East to adopt a pragmatic approach to achieving the presidency, warning against reliance on sentiment.
“We can’t get to the presidency by sentiment. We have to re-engage; we have to support other regions. And at the time of God, nobody will stop it,” he said, advocating for strategic political alliances.
The minister’s remarks come amid heightened political activity following the APC’s dominance in recent by-elections, where opposition figures like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar faced setbacks.
