Tensions are rising between Cameroon’s head coach, Marc Brys, and the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) just days before the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff matches, following a disagreement over the release of the national team list.
According to a report by CamerounWeb, Brys has already submitted his list of players for the decisive playoffs, but FECAFOOT is reportedly refusing to publish it until the Belgian tactician travels to Yaoundé to announce it officially at a press conference.
A source within the federation disclosed that FECAFOOT insisted on “a formal, publicised announcement from its headquarters, requiring the coach’s physical presence.”
However, Brys, who plans to hold the team’s training camp in Morocco—where the playoffs will also take place—has declined the request, proposing instead that the list be unveiled virtually through platforms such as Zoom or Google Meet to save time and prioritise preparations.
The standoff has created uncertainty around the Indomitable Lions’ buildup to the crucial fixtures, with concerns that the delay in announcing the squad could affect logistics, communication, and player readiness ahead of the matches.
“Marc Brys has no plans to travel to Yaoundé,” the report stated, adding that the Belgian considers immediate operational readiness in Morocco more important than ceremonial obligations at FECAFOOT headquarters.
This latest development adds to the tension between Brys and the federation, whose relationship has been marked by disagreements since the Belgian’s appointment earlier this year.
The Indomitable Lions, who finished as one of the four best second-placed teams in the qualifying series, are scheduled to face Congo in the semi-final of the World Cup playoffs on Thursday, November 13, in Morocco.
