2026 World Cup playoffs: Nwabali tenders apology to Nigerians

Super Eagles No 1, Stanley Nwabali says the team must take full responsibility for the defeat to Democratic Republic of Congo.

Eric Chelle’s men were defeated 4-3 on penalities by the Leopards of Democratic Republic of Congo in Rabat on Sunday night.

The defeat means the Super Eagles will not attend the FIFA World Cup for the second consecutive edition.

Congo on the other hand secured a spot in the Intercontinental playoffs which will hold in Mexico in March 2026.

Sebastian Desabre’s side are looking to qualify for the mundial for the first time since their first appearance in 1974.

Nwabali took to the social media to express his frustration with the Super Eagles defeat.

“Painful! We all did our best for the badge thought our best wasn’t enough. I was once a fan and understand how it feels giving you a disappointing night, we take full responsibility,” the Chippa United shot stopper wrote on his Instagram page.
