2026 WCQ playoff: I see superstar, not €100m – Chelle on Osimhen

Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Eric Chelle, has said that he does not care about the price tag on the players, especially Victor Osimhen.

For instance, a player like Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is currently valued at over €100 million.

Chelle said he sees his superstar striker, Osimhen, and not €100 million.

Galatasaray had to break the bank to sign Osimhen during the summer transfer window, paying a record-breaking fee of €75 million.

During his pre-match press briefing ahead of the game on Sunday, the Malian was asked how he manages a €100 million-rated player like Osimhen.

The coach said that the priority is not the striker’s price tag.

“When I am in front of the player, I don’t see the 100m euros; I see the superstar that you have to manage,” Chelle said on the Impact by Tiguida podcast.

“When you are a manager, the first thing you do when you arrive to take over a team is to establish rules. We can’t live without rules because we all need to be safe.

“The most important thing was to put a framework around these players, all my staff, all my officials.

“There are 50 of us, so everyone feels safe that we are protected from each other and from the outside. Once you are protected, people can express themselves internally.

“He’s worth 100 million euros. For me, he’s the best striker in the world. It’s not the superstar that interests me; it is the man who interests me.”
