2025 NPA GTCO Lagos International Polo Tournament: Kaduna Clearwater Clinch Dapo Ojora Cup

Clearwater Farm polo players, winners of the Dapo Ojora Cup show off their prizes during the Prize Presentation ceremony of the Dapo Ojora Cup at the Ribidu Road Polo Ground in Ikoyi, Lagos last Friday. The polo fiesta enters its second week Tuesday 12, 2025.

Debutants Clearwater Farm polo team has become the first team to win a major prize in the opening week of the ongoing 2025 NPA GTCO Lagos international polo tournament. The Kaduna based polo warriors defeated their local rivals, Kaduna Dattaku polo team 13-61/2 in an exciting four chukka final that was thrilling from start to finish.

Clearwater parading Baba Dawule, Aliyu Tijani  Kabire Seidu and Argentine professional, Nico  Recaite jumped to the driving seat from the first chukka of the tense encounter after cancelling their 31/2 handicap goals they conceded to their opponents and led all the way to the final bell to emerge the first major champion in the three weeklong prestigious polo fiesta.

The highly sought after Dapo Ojora Cup that is sponsored by Mota-Engil is played annually during the Lagos international polo tournament in the everlasting memory of the Nigerian polo icon and former Captain of the Lagos Polo Club.

Elated Patron, Mumuni Dagazau who extolled the polo legacies of Dapo Ojora who has flown the Nigerian flag at many international polo events across the world, congratulated the polo club for initiating and dedicating the prize for the late legend.

“We are excited to participate in one of Nigeria’s most prestigious polo events. This opportunity gives us to showcase not only our horses but our team’s skill and the dedication and excellence that define Clearwater Farms,” declared Brigadier General Kapeh Kazir moments after the prize presentation ceremony in Lagos.

The prestigious event that galloped off on a blistering note with 33 teams vying for four major cups and six subsidiary prizes and individual awards, enters its second week with high handicap teams loaded with professionals from Argentina, Europe and South Africa  vying  from February 12, 2025.

Clearwater Farms’ Polo team  that is still basking in the euphoria of their Dapo Ojora Cup victory, in campaigning  in the  Chapel Hill Denham Lagos Open Cup and the Lagos Low Cup on February 18th and 19th, 2025.

Last year, the highly revered Dapo Ojora Memorial Cup went to the visiting Kaduna Sublime/ Dangote team that scored a golden goal to defeat Open Cup record holder, Lagos Leighton Kings to clinch the prize.
