2025 Barr. Nyesom Wike FCT school sports fiesta: Grand Finalé set as finalists rmerge

Students of GSSS Tungan Maje were in jubilant mood on Tuesday, moments after their Boys Volleyball team survived a breath taking encounter against GSTC Abaji, in the Western Conference of the 2025 Barr. Nyesom Wike FCT School Sports Festival, to qualify for the grand finalé of the fiesta.

To qualify for the grand finale, GSSS Tungan Maje defeated GSTC Abaji by 2 sets to 1; having earlier trashed School for the Gifted, Gwagwalada by 2 straight sets to reach the Conference final.

On the other hand, GSTC Abaji humbled GSS Kwali by the same scoreline 2-0, in the semifinal, but succumbed to the superior spiking prowess of GSSS Tungan Maje.

Reacting to the victory, Captain of GSSS Tungan Maje boys volleyball team, Godwin Ilya said they didn’t expect a tough competition from the Boys from Abaji, but is glad he and his team mates were able to get the job done, by making it to the grand finale, where their goal will be to clinch the gold medal.

His opposite number, Mohammed Kabir of GSTC accepted that they lost to a side slightly better than they were; but commended his teammates for a beautiful display that earned them the second ticket to the grand finale, from the conference.

In other games, JSS Hajj Camp defeated JSS Kwali 2-1 in Junior Boys Volleyball; GGSS Dukpa won against GSSS Tungan Maje in straight sets (2-0) in Volleyball for senior Girls.

In Badminton for Boys, School for the Gifted, Gwagwalada beat GSTC Abaji in straight sets (2-0); whilst GGSS Dukpa edged GSSS Tungan Maje 2-1 in the Girls category.

Blueprint reports that Government Science Technical Collage Abaji ran away with a 1-0 win over the host School, GSS Gwagwalada, in football for Senior Boys; whilst GGSS Dukpa defeated GSS Yangoji 2-0 in the Senior Girls category.

Junior Secondary School Haji Camp trashed GSS Yangoji 2-0 in football for the juniors; and speaking after the match, game master of JSS Haji Camp Peter Ellah praised his players for the effort, and urged them to keep their focus until they lift the converted trophy.

On his part, the gaffer GSTC of Abaji Saliu Mohammed commended the resilience of his players, which made it possible for them to achieve this much.

Irrespective of the outcome of the finals in all the games and categories; the winners and first runner-ups at the conference level, automatically qualifies for the grand finale, scheduled for at Packages A and B of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
