2025 Anambra governorship election: Candidates sign peace accord


All the sixteen governorship candidates for Anambra State November 8 poll, Monday, signed a peace afford before the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun and other electoral stakeholders.

The event held at Awka, Anambra state capital, was organised under the auspices of the National Peace Committee (NPC), an initiative led by the former Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar and Catholic Bishop of Sokoto State, Most Rev. Matthew Kukah, aimed at promoting peaceful election.

Speaking during the occasion, Egbetokun, represented by DIG Benjamin Okoro, urged political actors to be tolerance, uphold democratic values, as well as ensure that their supporters would be committed to peace before, during, and after the election. 

According to him, Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies would provide adequate security for the election, while maintaining neutrality and professional in the discharge of their duties.

He also commended the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Ikioye Orutugu for his proactive security engagements and continuous advocacy for peaceful participation across the state.

In their various remarks, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressive Congress (APC) flag bearer, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, and others pledged to uphold the principles of non-violence, urging their supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and respect the electoral process.

The peace accord was attended by political parties candidates, party leadership, security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), leadership of security apparatus, civil society organizations, and traditional rulers.
