The stage is set for the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, which is scheduled to kick off on Friday, August 22, 2025. Twenty teams will vie for supremacy in what promises to be a thrilling edition of Nigeria’s top-tier football competition.

This year marks the 54th season of the NPFL and the 36th since the league turned professional, continuing a legacy of high-stakes domestic football across the country.

The opening fixture will see defending champions Remo Stars FC face off against Rivers United FC at the Remo Stars Stadium. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m., launching a season expected to deliver drama, goals, and fierce competition.

Notably, this season will feature four privately owned clubs—the highest number since 2019—highlighting growing private investment in Nigerian football. These clubs are Remo Stars, Ikorodu City, Barau FC, and Kun Khalifat.

With a mix of seasoned giants and ambitious newcomers, the 2025/26 NPFL campaign is expected to deliver another unforgettable chapter in Nigerian football.
