200 Akwa Ibom community members get free TB counseling, testing

No fewer than 200 persons from Nnung Udoe community in Ibesikpo Asutan local government area of Akwa Ibom state were given free counseling and testing on Tuberculosis as part of advocacy campaign by AHF Nigeria.

The advocacy campaign Saturday took the AHF community advocacy group through major streets and ended up in the community market at Nnung Udoe roundabout, Tuesday.

In his remarks, Mr Steve Aborisade, Senior Advocacy and Marketing Manager, AHF Nigeria, said the event was basically on advocacy, trying to sensitise the general population in the community on Tuberculosis (TB), signs and symptoms.

Aborisade said the advocacy was AHF’s commitment to empowering communities to take charge and drive the progress of their health and wellness.

He said with the Power Voices (Community Advocacy Club) an initiative of AHF Africa, advocacy on health as affecting the community is for them to take ownership.

He added that the power voices were individuals, who were passionate about their communities to work for the good of the community and advance the health interests by creating awareness and education and advocating for what is needed in each community.

“This is important because community ownership is a crucial step to any form of progress on any issue in the community.

“The Power Voices exist in all AHF Nigeria’s states of operation and they are all simultaneously working to tackle identified challenges in their domain,” he said.
