16 killed, 52 injured as trailer crashes in Kano

Sixteen passengers have died as a result of a fatal road crash that occurred in Kano on Thursday night.

A statement on Friday by CRS Abdullahi Labaran, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, said the crash occurred at approximately 2150 hours in the night.

According the statement the crash precisely occurred along the Kano-Maiduguri Road, under the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover, Hotoro.

The statement explained that the crash involved a total of 71 passengers, also injured 52 others.

The statement disclosed that the preliminary crash report indicated the crash involved a an oberspeeding trailer (DAF Model) carrying goods and passengers at the time of the crash.

It specifically stated that the excess speed resulted in loss of control of the vehicle under the bridge and the accident that occurred

In the meantime, the injured victims have been evacuated to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, for urgent medical attention while thr police have cleared the sccene.

“In response to the tragic incident, the Sector Commander, FRSC Kano Sector Command, CC UM Matazu, has dispatched an investigation team to conduct a thorough inquiry into the crash.

He has also extended his deep condolences to the families of the deceased and prays for the quick recovery of the injured victims while warning drivers and the general public against overloading of trailers with goods, animals, and passengers,

He stressed that such dangerous practices significantly increase the risk of fatal crashes even as he emphasized the FRSCs commitment to ensuring safety on our roads.
