100 days in office: Ushie restates commitment to grassroots transformation

1 week ago 23

The council chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River state, Hon. Theresa Akwaji Ushie, has restated her unwavering commitment to grassroots development and infrastructural transformation.

The council boss stated this while reflecting on her administration’s first 100 days.

Since assuming office, her administration has prioritized people-centered projects, directly addressing critical challenges in water supply, road infrastructure, and community welfare to enhance the quality of life for residents.

One of the most impactful interventions so far is the provision of solar-powered boreholes in Nyanya Ward, St. Gregory Primary School Ikanda, and Beten Ward.

By ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water, these projects have significantly improved public health, reduced waterborne diseases, and eased the daily struggles of residents who previously relied on unreliable water sources.

Beyond tackling water scarcity, Hon. Ushie has launched an ambitious road rehabilitation initiative, recognizing that efficient transportation is a catalyst for economic growth.

Her administration has successfully graded and rehabilitated 17.6 kilometers of roads across multiple communities, including the Okpeche-Adagom Road in Afrike Ward 1 (6.9km), Ilah Village Road in Gakem Ward (1.4km), Abukpem Village Road through to Gakem Community Town Hall (300m), Ugidi Market (560 square meters), and the Beten-Akpakpa Abuana-Oloko Road (9km).

These improvements have not only enhanced connectivity but also boosted local trade, facilitated the movement of agricultural produce, and revitalized economic activities across the LGA.

Reflecting on her administration’s first 100 days, Hon. Ushie emphasized that these achievements are just the beginning of a broader development agenda focused on long-term, sustainable growth.

“Governance must be impactful, visible, and directly beneficial to the people. These first 100 days have been about laying a solid foundation, and we are determined to sustain this momentum. Our focus remains on executing strategic projects that will drive economic empowerment and social development across Bekwarra. We are moving with a clear roadmap for progress, and my tenure will be a defining era of transformation, positioning Bekwarra LGA on a trajectory of sustainable development, inclusivity, and prosperity,” she stated.

She also expressed her gratitude to the Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, for his unwavering commitment and support, which has been instrumental in the success of her administration’s initiatives. She acknowledged his leadership in fostering an enabling environment for development and urged continued collaboration between the state and local government to accelerate progress.

Ushie’s proactive and results-driven leadership has earned widespread commendation from community leaders, stakeholders, and residents, who described her administration as purpose-driven and responsive to the needs of the people. With a clear vision and a commitment to sustained impact, Hon. Ushie’s leadership is poised to bring lasting change to Bekwarra LGA.
