No fewer than 10 students of the Polytechnic Ibadan are now hospitalised after reportedly inhaling poisonous gas.
The students were said to have inhaled the suspected poisonous gas on Tuesday during a fight between two students of the Science Laboratory and Technology Department of the Institution
It was learnt that trouble started when one of the students allegedly sprayed an unknown choking substance while others attempted to intervene and separate those fighting.
The witness said this led to several students collapsing, and that some went unconscious after which Oyo state government was alerted
It was gathered that upon receiving reports of the incident, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, led an immediate emergency response with the affected students promptly evacuated and transferred to Ring Road State Hospital and the University College Hospital (UCH).
According to the Commissioner, the affected 10 students have been stabilised and were receiving appropriate medical care.
